Expandable Slices

THUMB-slide-version-1.9-TM

This facility allows bandwidth to exceed slice guarantee limit on a shared-bandwidth basis.

Slices provide a guaranteed bandwidth to the suite or service group. An Expandable Slice allows the users to exceed the guaranteed limit, but bandwidth that exceeds the limit is available only on a shared basis.

Thus if a suite has a guarantee of, say 2 Mbps, then they will always have that available to them. Bandwidth above 2Mbps would be available on an equal basis with other shared users.

The centre is free to set the amount of expansion above the guaranteed. So you can specify say 2 Mbps of guarantee and say 4 Mbps of shared bandwidth on top of that.

There are many circumstances when this is useful, but it does require some additional planning by the customer. A very typical use is for online backup. Because Medusa Slices have their own QoS priority queues, the customer can ensure that high priority traffic like VoIP is within the guarantee but less important traffic will use the expansion as available.

We are happy to assist customers plan their use of the expandable bandwidth.

Summary Cockpit

THUMB-slide-1.9-cockpit

When a suite is selected in Add/Edit, an entirely new screen appears. This is the Summary or Cockpit and it enables administrators to see everything relating to a customer at a glance.

You will find traffic graphs, Pubic IP data, Service Groups and limits, Switch Patching and other data. You can see a list of active devices on the customer network, and start the connection monitor.

The Suite edit menus are still at the top of the page.

Enhanced Suite Management

Medusa now supports devices on a suite network which cannot support the default local IP addresses used on Medusa.

Suite Aliases – supports individual devices with an unchangeable Fixed IP addresses, such as older printers, routers with lost passwords etc.

DHCP Alias – this will replace the default local IP range with a range of your own choosing. This is sometimes necessary when there are a lot of devices to change on a network, or there is an old server or other inherited issues.
